HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR NIGHT OF
DESTRUCTION READY TO RAISE HAVOC AT PERRIS
AUTO SPEEDWAY SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24
By Scott
Daloisio
Perris, California — October
20, 2026 — Get those Halloween
costumes ready, grab the kids, and prepare
for an evening of smashing, crashing,
candy collecting, and good old-fashioned
family fun! Perris Auto Speedway is
putting the finishing touches on one of
its biggest and most anticipated events of
the season, the annual Halloween
Spooktacular Night of Destruction, this
Saturday, October 24. Spectator gates will
swing open at 5:00 p.m., with the mayhem
getting underway at 7:00.

And when they call it a Night of
Destruction, they aren't kidding!
Fans will be treated to a wild and wacky
lineup featuring daring Figure 8 Racing,
the always-unpredictable Figure 8 Trailer
Race, Mighty Mini Stocks battling on the
challenging road course, the
no-holds-barred carnage of Demo Cross, and
the downright zany Double Deckers. There
will be bent sheet metal, flying dirt,
plenty of fender-banging, and perhaps a
few drivers wondering why they didn't take
up something a little less dangerous, like
knitting!
But the destruction is
only half the fun!
At intermission,
the speedway will transform from a
battleground of battered race cars into a
Halloween wonderland. Youngsters dressed
in their Halloween costumes will be
invited onto the racetrack to
trick-or-treat with the drivers and their
race cars. There will also be costume
contests for the kids, giving the little
ghosts, goblins, witches, superheroes, and
princesses an opportunity to show off
their Halloween finest.
And believe
it or not, this wildly popular tradition
started almost by accident!
A few
years before COVID, Perris Auto Speedway
had some driver meet-and-greets during
intermission. Just two days before the
track's final race ahead of Halloween one
year, Shelly Wooldridge, who supplies
parts, tires, and fuel to the speedway's
competitors, came up with an idea. Why not
invite kids to wear their Halloween
costumes and trick-or-treat with the
drivers during intermission?
There
was just one little problem. The race was
only 48 hours away!
Promoter Don
Kazarian wondered whether such short
notice would give families enough time to
prepare. After giving it some thought, he
decided to roll the dice and see what
happened.
And, as they say, “The
Rest is History.”
“With only 48
hours' advance notice, I did not think we
would get a lot of kids in costume,”
Kazarian laughed. “We were pleasantly
surprised. Actually shocked, really. We
thought with the late notice, we would
only get a couple handfuls of kids in
costume. There ended up being over 100.”
That unexpected success was enough to
convince the track to bring the promotion
back the following year. This time,
instead of giving families just two days
to prepare, the speedway began spreading
the word well in advance.
If the
response the first year had been
surprising, what happened the second year
was downright astonishing!
“The
crowd the second year ballooned with
several hundred kids in costume,” the
longtime promoter remarked. “It has
continued to grow each year. It has turned
into our second most popular night of the
year. It is only surpassed by our
Independence Show that includes the best
fireworks sky concert in Riverside
County.”
What began as a
last-minute idea has blossomed into one of
the most beloved traditions on the Perris
Auto Speedway calendar. And it isn't
difficult to understand why.
For
the kids, it is the best of both worlds.
First, they get to watch grown-ups
deliberately crash into one another, smash
up race cars, and create the kind of
automotive carnage that would make an
insurance adjuster faint. Then, halfway
through the evening, they get to walk onto
the very same racetrack and collect
Halloween candy from the drivers!
For the parents, it is a chance to enjoy
an exciting night of racing while treating
their children to a fun, family-friendly
Halloween celebration in a controlled
environment.
Once the first half of
Saturday's program is complete, the
crossover gates will open, and the
youngsters will be invited onto the
racetrack. Waiting for them will be the
drivers and crew members, many dressed in
Halloween costumes themselves, with plenty
of candy to hand out.
Don't be
surprised to see a fearsome-looking race
car driver dressed as a giant chicken, a
superhero handing out chocolate bars, or a
ghost standing beside a race car that
looks like it has already been through a
demolition derby!
And while the
youngsters will undoubtedly have the time
of their lives, the racers might enjoy the
experience every bit as much.
After
all, these are competitors who spend their
Saturday nights banging fenders, dodging
wrecks, and trying to beat one another to
the finish line. Watching them exchange
their competitive scowls for big smiles
while passing out candy to excited
children is a sight worth seeing.
And once the candy has been collected, the
costumes have been admired, and the little
ghosts and goblins have returned to the
grandstands, it will be time to get back
to business.
The business of
smashing, crashing, and destroying race
cars!
