PASSCAR STOCK CAR SERIES AND IMCA MODIFIEDS AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY JULY 10TH
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, July 7, 2021) The most competitive season for the PASSCAR Stock Car Series and IMCA Modifieds in recent memory will continue this Saturday night, July 10th, at Perris Auto Speedway. The night of dirt track racing and clean family fun will include Super Stocks, Street Stocks, American Factory Stocks and the IMCA Modifieds. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Intermission will include an on-track autograph session featuring all the cars and drivers with free candy for the kids.

Heading into round #5 of the season on Saturday, the top three drivers in the Super Stock standings are separated by a single point. Hemet’s David Lord sits on top of the heap with Riverside’s Tyson Talkington and Buena Park’s Billy Griffin tied for second, one-point behind. It has been feast or famine for Lord thus far in 2021. He won the first and third races of the season but dropped out of the second and fourth races finishing ninth both times. At the last race on June 26th, he left the race early when is car overheated. However, with the kind of luck that would send any gambler scrambling off to Las Vegas, the other three drivers who came into the night ranked in the top four spots in the standings (Talkington, Griffin and two time series champ Dennis Wooldridge of Riverside) dropped out early like Lord. Fortunately, Lord smoked the competition early in the night in his heat race and the three points he earned for that six-lap victory were enough to stake him to the lead going into this week. Marina Del Rey’s Ron Bartels won the last main event at the end of June and is fifth in the championship standings.

Just like in the Super Stocks, first and second place in the IMCA Modified standings are only separated by one point. And just like Super Stocks, Griffin, the 2013 PASSCAR Modified champion, is also second. In the Modifieds he trails 2004 champion Tom “Slick” Smith of Norco. Behind them in third fourth and fifth are three-time track champ Chuck Becker of Yucaipa, Carla Laney of Torrance, and Riverside’s Justin Dunn. Consistency has been the name of the game for the top five as only one of them, Dunn, has a win at The PAS this season. Dunn’s victory came in the last race on June 26, and it was his third top 10 outing of 2021. Smith has only finished out of the top three one time. Griffin has yet to finish out of the top 10. Becker has three top 10 finishes and Laney has two.

Compared to the Super Stocks and Modifieds, Stefan Davies of Murrieta has some breathing room in the Street Stock standings. Make that a tiny bit of breathing room as he is only three points in front of Moreno Valley's Brandon Kelly. Three-time champion Curtis Dietzsch of Riverside is swimming close to the top and is only four-points behind Kelly. Davies leads the class with two main event wins this year. Kelly has one win. At the last race two weeks ago, Lake Elsinore’s James Altman Jr. Scored an impressive green to checkers victory in the class. It was his first ever Street Stock win and propelled him up to 4th in the championship standings. Kelly's father, Doug, who also resides in Moreno Valley, is currently fifth.

The biggest advantage for any of the point leaders belongs to Temecula’s Cameron Veatch in the American Factory Stocks. The two-time defending champion enjoys a 12-point lead over Nuevo’s Mike Burks going into Saturday’s race. Jason Cook of Hemet, Chris Evans of National City and Menifee’s Kris Carnish are currently third, fourth and fifth. While Veatch does not have a win yet this year, he has not finished lower than fourth in a main event. Burks was the winner the last time out.
