PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY HOSTS NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION THIS SATURDAY NIGHT By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, April 27, 2021) Perris Auto Speedway will welcome in the Month of May this Saturday night, May 1, when LKQ Pick Your Part Presents Night of Destruction. Known as “The Craziest Show On Dirt,” Saturday’s event will include Figure 8 Racing, a Figure 8 Trailer Race, no holds barred Demo Cross, Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks, and the zany Double Deckers. It will be the first Night of Destruction at The PAS in 14-months. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7. Due to COVID mandates, tickets are only available online at https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/pas/7/event/1219083. Tickets will be obtainable until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night. In 2019, the only event held at the world-famous speed plant was the first Night of Destruction of the season. That was the first weekend in March. A few days later, COVID became a serious worldwide concern, and the track was forced to close its gates. That closure lasted until two weeks ago when the track hosted its first event of 2021 with the PASSCAR Stock Car Series and IMCA Modifieds. Last Saturday, the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars were at the track for the first time since November 2019. Finally, Night of Destruction will complete the first cycle of the different shows this Saturday. “We are looking forward to finally seeing Night of Destruction again,” promoter Don Kazarian said. “It is one of our most popular shows and the one we had in March 2020 was a huge success. The car count was very nice, and we had high hopes that it would grow even bigger all year. When COVID came into play a few days after, we never thought that would be the last Night of Destruction we would see for more than a year. Our first two events in 2021 have been extremely competitive. We expect the same at Saturday’s Night of Destruction. Most of these drivers have not crashed into anything in more than a year. They are hungry! It should be a wild night.” The Figure 8 race, and the Figure 8 Trailer Race will see which drivers are the bravest as they will crisscross in an intersection cut into the infield of the clay oval just as they did over a half century ago when the sport was introduced to Southern California at Gardena’s Ascot Park. Demo Cross, which will be run on the track’s inner quarter-mile oval, basically has no rules. If a driver wants to spin out or crash another driver, it is all legal. The Demo Cross course features obstacles including jets skis, unseaworthy boats, 55-gallon drums of water and tractor tires. The Double Deckers feature one car stacked on top of another. The driver in the bottom car controls the gas and brake pedals. The driver in the top car controls the steering. There is no communication between the two except for hollering out the window. Like Demo Cross, the Double Deckers race on the quarter mile, but they will go in the opposite direction (clockwise). The ever growing Four Cylinder Mini Stock Class uses portions of the quarter mile and the infield to form a road course. Like Demo Cross, there are no rules once the green flag drops. Saturday’s field will be headed by defending champions Jesse Gordon of Banning, Kyle Cox of Tustin, and Michael Hartfield of Menifee. Fan favorite Gordon has won the last three Figure 8 titles and captured the Figure 8 Trailer race title in 2019. Third generation driver Cox has won the last two championships in the Demo Cross class and has been the Iron Man (combined highest point driver in all classes) the past two seasons. Hartfield, who also races IMCA Modifieds at the track, was the first ever full season champion in the Mini Stocks in 2019. Other past champions and fan favorites expected to be in competition on Saturday include Earl Cox Jr. of Norco, Anthony Guisa of Long Beach, 81-year-old J.D. Wilson of Torrance, Murrieta’s Garrett McCourt, and more. Except for the Trailer Figure 8 race, which only runs a main event, all classes will contest heats and main events on Saturday. Adult tickets are $20.00 Kids 6-12 are $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. The fairgrounds charges $10.00 for parking. Camping on the fairgrounds is available for $25.00 per night beginning at noon on Friday. Due to current COVID restrictions, PAS concessions will only be available on the free “FANFOOD” app which is available from the App Store. Fans will place their order and pay on the app. When the order is ready, they will receive a text to go to the designated station closest to the section they are seated to pick up the order.
