PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY’S HISTORIC 25TH SEASON OPENER IS SATURDAY By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, March 2, 2020) As hard as it may be to believe for longtime racing fans, Perris Auto Speedway will open its 25th Anniversary Season this Saturday night, March 7th, when LKQ Pick Your Part Presents Night of Destruction #1. Saturday’s thrill a minute program will feature Figure 8 racing, a Figure 8 Trailer race, Demo Cross, Mini Stocks and the insane Double Deckers. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 P.M. and the first crash will take place at 7:00. Crazy Night of Destruction action will open Perris Auto Speedway season on Saturday. Doug Allen Photo. Built in a little over four-weeks’, the now-famous track opened on March 30, 1996. When it threw the doors open for the first time, the spotless facility set a new standard for dirt track racing with a daytime bright seamless lighting system, concert quality sound, large clean restrooms and a variety of different foods. Now, a quarter of a century later, it is still one of the most modern and popular dirt tracks in the nation. Perhaps more incredible in a day when promoters come and go like they are stepping through a revolving door, the Kazarian family has been in charge since day one. These days, two other tracks that host regular shows in California have had a promoter longer than Kazarian. Only Costa Mesa Speedway, which will begin its 52nd season promoted by the Oxley family, and Jim Naylor who is entering his 43rd year as the promoter at the Ventura Raceway, have been around longer than Kazarian. “We are very excited to open our 25th season this coming Saturday night,” Don Kazarian said. “It is very hard to believe we have been doing this for 25-years. It all comes down to our drivers, sponsors, staff, race officials and most of all a great group of devoted fans. Without any of them, we would have not been here for 25-years, so we want to thank them all. They are the ones who make it possible to be racing here on Saturday nights.” The 2020 schedule will be a busy one at the Riverside County speed plant. Twenty-five nights of racing featuring sprint cars, stock cars and the wildly popular Night of Destruction will be crammed in between the March 7th season opener and the final race of the campaign on November 21st. “We initially started out with sprint car and stock car shows,” Kazarian said. “We added Night of Destruction within the last decade and right now, it is our most popular show. Nobody would have ever guessed that when we first threw open the gates. Over the years we have tweaked that show to the fans likes and it now has four strong classes that are all crazy. It is a fun, fast-paced night of family entertainment.” Tickets for Saturday’s Night of Destruction are $15.00 for adults. For active military members with proper id and their spouse or date it is only $5.00 each. Teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 also get in for $5.00. Children 5 and under are free. The fairgrounds charges $10.00 for parking. After Saturday night’s opener, the PASSCAR Stock Cars and IMCA Modifieds will lift the lid on their season on March 14th. Sprint cars will open their 2020 PAS campaign with the NOS Energy Drinks World of Outlaws and the Amsoil USAC/CRA Series on March 28.
