PERRIS
AUTO SPEEDWAY CLOSES THE 2019 SEASON
NOVEMBER 16TH
By Scott
Daloisio
(Perris, CA, November 10, 2019)
Perris Auto Speedway will bring the
curtain down on its 24th season of racing
action this Saturday night, November 16th.
It will be the fans last time to see
racing at the track until March of 2020.
The final night card will feature PASSCAR
Street Stocks, Super Stocks, Modifieds and
American Factory Stocks.
High Desert
Modified drivers Blake Thornell (#14) and
Corben Sabors in action at The PAS. Doug
Allen Photo.
Mathematically, championships are still up
for grabs in all four divisions. However,
in the PASSCAR Modifieds all Apple
Valley’s Joey Haresky must do is take a
green flag in the main event to sew up the
title. In September Haresky won the 2019
Perris Auto Speedway IMCA Modified
championship. If he starts the main on
Saturday night, he will become the first
driver in track history to win the IMCA
and PASSCAR titles in the same year.
Riverside’s Luke Dodd, a five-time track
street stock champion and a rookie in the
modified class, would have to win the main
event and have Haresky not start to tie
for the title.
In the Street
Stocks, Temecula’s Blaine Whitson, who had
a good start to the season followed by a
mediocre middle and now a hot finish, can
win his second title in the class. If he
does, he will end the three-year
championship streak of Dodd. Going into
the race, Whitson leads Dodd by 11-points.
The only other driver with a mathematical
shot at first is 17-year-old Norco High
School senior Alyssa Smith. She comes in
14 points behind the leader. Saturday will
be her last race in a street stock at The
PAS before moving up to the modifieds in
2020.
In the Super
Stocks, either Fred Estrada or Tyson
Talkington, who both reside in Riverside,
will capture the crown. It will be a first
ever PAS regular season title for
whichever of them wins. Estrada, who raced
decades ago at Ascot, leads Talkington by
10 points going into the finale.
Talkington is contesting his first full
season back in a super stock after taking
about 10-years off to race speedway
motorcycles.
Defending
champion Cameron Veatch of Temecula will
be attempting to become the track’s first
ever two-time factory stock king. He has a
13-point advantage over Darren Myers of
Santa Ana.
Spectator
gates will open at 5:00 PM on Saturday and
the first race will be at 7:00. At
intermission, all kids will be allowed on
to the racetrack to collect free candy and
get autographs from all the drivers.
Cars in all 4
classes will participate in hot laps, heat
races and main events on Saturday.
