McDOUGAL AND MARTIN BRING OVAL NATIONALS ENTRY LIST TO 42!
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, October 28, 2019) Entries from racing stars Jason McDougal and Mike Martin have brought the number of cars entered in the 24th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals Presented By All Coast Construction to 42. The high-profile race will be staged at Perris Auto Speedway on November 7th, 8th and 9th.

McDougal, who calls Tulsa, Oklahoma home, will be joining Southern California star Brody Roa in driving for longtime Southern California car owner Dwight Cheney. The 22-year-old is eighth in USAC National Sprint Car Series points heading into the Ovals. Thus far in 2019, he has one victory in the National Series. That win came during the “Eastern Swing” at the Bridgeport Speedway in Swedesboro, New Jersey on June 12th.

In the USAC National Midget Series, McDougal is currently 9th in the point standings with two victories. One of the wins came at Jefferson County Speedway in Fairbury, Nebraska on July 12th. His other triumph came a little over a week ago when he captured the series final Midwest race of the season at the Tri-state Speedway in Haubstaudt, Indiana.

Martin won the first-ever ASCS Sprint Car race at The PAS more than a decade ago. However, the Yuma, Arizona resident etched his place in PAS folklore in a race he was not even in!

The race was the 2015 Oval Nationals. One of the pre-race favorites, the late Bryan Clauson, blew an engine during the main event at the Friday night preliminary. Rather than throw in the towel, Clauson immediately jumped in his truck and drove to Arizona to borrow an engine from Martin. The popular driver turned right around and drove back to The PAS arriving in the morning. Clauson’s crew installed the borrowed engine and he took the power plant from the middle of the pack to win the main event.

This season, Martin has a win in the USAC Southwest Series at Canyon Speedway Park on June 8th and heads into the Oval Nationals fifth in the Southwest standings. The veteran driver has also contested several races in the CRA Series and is 13th in CRA points. His best finish at The PAS in 2019 has been a 10th on March 30th.
