TRICK
OR TREATING FOR KIDS AND STOCK CAR RACES
AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY!
By Scott
Daloisio
(Perris, CA, October 20, 2019)
Perris Auto Speedway will be hosting one
of its most popular nights of the year
this Saturday, October 26th. The PASSCAR
Street Stocks, Super Stocks, Modifieds and
American Factory Stocks will all be
racing. In addition to the racing, all
kids in Halloween costumes will be allowed
onto the track to collect candy from all
the drivers. Spectator gates will open at
5:00 P.M. with racing at 7:00.
Following the
heat races at intermission, all the
drivers and cars will line up on the front
straightaway. They will have bags of candy
and goodies. Kids will then be allowed
onto the track for the entire intermission
to collect treats from their racing
heroes.
The Halloween
night tradition began three years ago at
the suggestion of Shelly Wooldridge. She
sent a message a couple of days before the
race proposing the idea. With only two
days to get the word out, track officials
were expecting 40 or 50 kids, but they
were pleasantly surprised when there were
close to 150 dressed up in a variety of
costumes. In the subsequent two years
after, the number of kids participating
continued to grow.
“This by far
is one of the most popular and fun nights
of our season,” promoter Don Kazarian
said. “Everyone looks forward to it all
year long and I am not sure who has more
fun, the kids or the drivers. The number
of trick or treaters has grown each year
and the costumes they come in continues to
amaze. Even some of the drivers dress up
during the break. The amount of candy the
drivers and teams bring gets bigger every
year, too. It is just a fun event and
maybe more importantly for parents, it is
a safe way for the little ones to trick or
treat.”
With only two
races remaining in the point season, all
but one of the championship chases remains
close. In the Street Stocks, Riverside’s
Luke Dodd, who is seeking his sixth
championship, holds a slender 7-point lead
over rival Blaine Whitson of Temecula.
Norco High senior Alyssa Smith is third
and trails Dodd by 15-points.
Veteran Fred
Estrada of Riverside is 14-points ahead of
fellow Riverside resident Tyson Talkington
in the Super Stocks. Beaumont’s Ricky Lee
is third, but he is 30-markers behind
Estrada.
Defending
American Factory Stock champion Cameron
Veatch of Temecula holds a 12-point
advantage over Nuevo’s Mike Burks. Darren
Myers of Buena Park is another five-points
behind in third.
The only class
with a clear-cut leader is in the
Modifieds. Apple Valley’s Joey Haresky,
who sewed up the IMCA portion of the track
championship, has a comfortable 27-point
lead over Bradley Morris of Romoland. Luke
Dodd, who is the leading rookie in the
Modifieds, is third.
Saturday’s
show will feature hot laps and heat races
for all the classes before the trick or
treating at intermission. After the kids
fill their Halloween bags up with goodies,
each class will contest 20-lap main
events.
After
Saturday, there will only be one stock car
show left at The PAS in 2019. It will come
on Saturday, November 16th.
