NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!

By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, August 27, 2019) The original home of Night of Destruction in Southern California, Perris Auto Speedway, will host another crowd pleasing evening of slam-bang action this Saturday, August 31st. The night of family fun is presented by LKQ Pick Your Part and it will feature Figure 8 Racing, a Figure 8 Trailer race, Mini Stocks, crazy Democross and the new and totally insane Double Deckers. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 P.M. and the crashing will start at 7:00.

Saturday’s Night of Destruction will be the next to last one in 2019 and championship implications prevail in all divisions. The tightest two races are in the Figure 8 Trailer and Mini Stock Classes. In the Trailers, Jesse Gordon, a respiratory therapist at Kaiser Permanente in Riverside, holds a narrow three-point lead over 2018 champion Kyle Cox of Huntington Beach. Ironically, both drivers have recently had life-changing moments. At the last race, Gordon, 27 of Beaumont, dropped to his knee and proposed to his girlfriend on the front straightaway before the first green flag. She said “Yes,” and Gordon, realizing he needed some extra cash for wedding expenses, promptly won the Figure 8 and Figure 8 Trailer mains. Cox, 31, of Huntington Beach, finished second to Gordon in the Trailer race and was third in the Figure 8 main. His life changing moment came last Thursday when he and wife Sarah welcomed their second daughter into the world.

Like Gordon and Cox in the Figure 8 Trailers, only three-points separates the drivers in the top two spots in the first year Mini Stock class. Menifee’s Michael Hartfield, who also races in the IMCA Modifieds at The PAS, is in first place with Chino’s Alan Mahoney only three points behind.

In the growing regular Figure 8 class, Gordon is seeking his third straight championship and enjoys a comfortable 33-point lead over Cox going into Saturday’s race.

Cox is closing in on the Democross and overall “Ironman” championship titles for the second year in a row. Going into Saturday’s free for all, he leads crowd favorite J.D. Wilson by 21-points in Democross. The amazing Wilson, a retired airlines pilot who resides in Costa Mesa, is 80-years old and he continually wows the crowd in the rough and tumble division. In the first six races of the year, Wilson has two wins and three second-place finishes. The only time he did not finish in the top two was in April when he was crashed out by another driver. And, those finishes come in 20-30 car fields comprised of drivers who are mostly in their 20s and 30s!!!

You can check out a replay of the wild July 27th Democross main, which shows Cox winning over Wilson, at the following link. The video is courtesy of FourVideos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-v1ZwaT1dk

In the “Ironman” standings (all classes combined), Cox has the title under lock and key already as he is 249 points in front of second-place Gordon.

In the crazy world of Double/Deckers (one car stacked on top of the other with the driver in the bottom car controlling the gas pedal and the brakes and the driver on top doing the steering), the Chino based team of Alan Mahoney and Rick Melgrin have a 60-point advantage over their closest pursuers.

All drivers will contest heat races and main events at Saturday’s fun show.

Before the races at 5:15, fans will be allowed onto the racetrack for an on-track autograph and photo session with all the drivers.

Adult tickets are $15.00. For active military with proper id and their spouse or date, it is only $5.00 each. For teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12, it is also only $5.00. Children 5 and under are admitted free. Parking on the fairgrounds is $8.00. Fans can order advance tickets 24-hours a day online at the following link https://pas.tix.com/Schedule.aspx?OrgNum=7 or by calling 1-800-595-4849. This event will not sell out. There will be plenty of tickets for everyone at the ticket window on race night.
