NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION STAR KYLE COX CARRIES ON FAMILY TRADITION AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, April 23, 2019) The “Craziest Show on Dirt,” LKQ Pick Your Part Night of Destruction, returns to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, April 27th, at 7:00 P.M. The show will include Figure 8 racing, a Figure 8 Trailer race, Democross, Mini Stocks, the brand new Double Deckers and Formula X Cross Karts. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 P.M.

One of the main drivers to watch on Saturday will be Kyle Cox of Huntington Beach. Last year, in only his third-year racing, he won the championship in the Figure 8 Trailer and Democross classes. He was also crowned the “Ironman Champion,” which combined points for all three (Figure 8, Figure 8 Trailer and Democross) of the classes.

With the last name of Cox, those championships and more are expected from the driver who will turn 31-years-old on May 9th. When he races at Perris, he competes against his father Kevin Cox and his uncle Earl Cox. They both raced at Ascot and Uncle Earl was the 2015 Figure 8 champion at The PAS. However, they are both overshadowed by Kyle’s grandfather, Earl Cox Sr., who was one of the true legends in Figure 8 racing at Ascot.

“He still goes out and watches the races and gets a good chuckle at all of us,” the third-generation racer told Dave Stall and Michele Spencer on Sunday’s Racer Radio Show. “He comes out to watch my dad, my uncle and me race. He loves it. He smiles and goes, “Yep, you are my kids.”

With the family being around dirt tracks and having so much success, one would think the younger Cox would have started racing a long time ago, but that is not how it was

“I didn’t really do too much racing type things before this,” he said to the radio audience. “I worked at K1 Speed (indoor karting) in Irvine off and on for about 10-years. So, I have a lot of time in electric go-karts, but that does not compare to driving a full-size car on dirt on a quarter mile or figure 8 track. The karts kind of helped in Democross where you go fast, run your line and dodge slower people. I wish I would have done this years ago.”

For now, Cox is happy to race the Nights of Destruction in his purple 1975 Camaro, but he would not mind doing some other types of racing.

“When you take out a trailer in the Figure 8 Trailer race or you drive through a boat in Democross, the crowd goes wild,” he said. “I love it. However, if it was a modified or sprint car, I would totally be down with it. There would be no problem of me taking a shot with them.”

At the season opener on February 23rd, in typical family tradition, Cox had a great night. He won the Figure 8 Trailer race and finished third in both the Democross and the regular Figure 8’s. His combined points from those three events see him with a commanding 51-point lead in the Ironman standings going into Saturday’s race.

Not long after the gates open on Saturday at 5:15, all the cars and drivers will be on the racetrack for all the fans to meet at an autograph and photo session.

Tickets for Saturday’s show are $15.00 for adults. For active military with proper id and their spouse or date, it will be $5.00 each. Teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 get in for $5.00. Children 5 and under are free. Parking on the fairgrounds is $8.00.

Advance tickets for all Perris Auto Speedway events are available 24-hours a day online at https://bit.ly/2Aa50Lj or by calling 1-800-595-4849. If you do not wish to buy tickets in advance for any race, there will be plenty of tickets for everyone at the ticket window on race night.

The track is conveniently located on the SoCal Fair and Event Center (home of October’s Southern California Fair), approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one-hour North of San Diego. To get to the track, take the 215 freeway, on the Ramona Expressway and go three miles east to the fairgrounds. For directions on MapQuest, the address to enter is: 18700 Lake Perris Drive and the zip code is 92571.
