PERRIS
AUTO SPEEDWAY EMBRACES THE PROPOSED GREEN
NEW DEAL!
By Scott
Daloisio
(Perris, CA, April 1, 2019)
Perris Auto Speedway Promoter Don Kazarian
has announced that the famous Riverside
County half-mile clay oval is all on board
with the proposed Green New Deal. The
track will be implementing several
exciting changes including solar-powered
racecars. The transition to the new
powerplants is expected for competitors in
all classes beginning this month.
Upon hearing
the proposed Green New Deal earlier this
year, the longtime track promoter’s mind
got rolling and he is pleased to reveal
several changes that will appeal to race
fans and teams alike.
“I was
intrigued when the new Green Deal was
proposed,” Kazarian said. “I knew we had
to comply and make it compatible in some
way with racing. Therefore, I am pleased
to announce that we are going all solar
power at the track and that includes the
racecars in each class. I know in the past
we had proposed going to solar powered
cars, but this time it is happening.”
The plan is
for all of the famous Riverside County
half-mile clay ovals open wheel classes to
have a solar panel mounted behind the cage
and a minimum of 14” inches over the tail
tank. All the stock car classes and Night
of Destruction cars will have them mounted
on the roof.
Not only will
solar powered race cars fall in line with
emission protections of the New Green
Deal, but they will also help with a
longtime problem of racecar drivers.
“Many drivers
have their hearing impaired after years of
racing,” Kazarian stated. “As solar
powered cars will be quiet, drivers will
no longer have to deal with hearing loss.
It will be a win-win situation for
everyone.”
When queried
as to his thoughts on the idea of quiet
racecars helping drivers maintain their
hearing as they grow older, longtime
driver and now USAC/CRA Race Director Tony
Jones replied, “Huh?”
The last time
Kazarian considered going to solar-powered
cars, he addressed the concern of fans
missing the sound of the racing engines.
At the time, he said the track would pump
the sound of powerful engines over the
track’s public address system. That is not
going to be the case this time.
“Noise
pollution is of global concern,” the
longtime promoter stated. “So, instead of
pumping in the reverberations of powerful
engines at high speed, we are going to
pump in some mood music. I like Teddy
Pendcargrass and have a lot of his tunes.
We may turn it up a notch at times to get
the fans really fired up and play some
stuff from Barry Manilow. They will love
it.”
Another
proposal of the Green New Deal that
intrigued Kazarian is the eventual
cancelation of air flights and replacing
them by building high speed rail systems
over the world’s oceans.
“It is going
to take a lot of work to get the
high-speed rails built across oceans
around the globe,” he said. “So, I started
thinking, the companies constructing these
rails will need some practice. Therefore,
we are going to have them build a
high-speed rail system over the nearby
lake to get fans to the track.”
When
questioned as to where the materials were
going to come from to build that rail
system, Kazarian stated, “We have some
extra steel left over from building cars
for our new Double Decker class. I have
had the guys go over and take a look at
the lake. They said it will take quite a
bit more steel than we have on hand, so we
will plan on building more Double Deckers
and buying more steel.
Lastly, but
certainly not least, cow farts are also
part of the equation. Longtime championed
by many concerned with the environment,
Kazarian has a plan for cow farts.
“We are
thinking of eliminating beef products from
the concessions” he stated. “I am not sure
how much it will help the environment, but
have you ever smelled a cow fart. They are
disgusting!”
In closing,
Kazarian said with a wink and a smile, “I
everyone has a very Happy April Fool’s
Day.”
