FINAL 2018 NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, August 28, 2018) LKQ Pick Your Part will present the final Night of Destruction for 2018 this Saturday night, September 1st, at Perris Auto Speedway. The crowd-pleasing holiday weekend show will feature Figure 8 racing, a Figure 8 Trailer race, insane Democross, the track’s brand new 4 Cylinder Class and Formula X & CrossKarts. Spectator gates will open at 5 P.M. and the chaos will begin at 7.

Saturday’s program will be the final time fans will be able To see Figure 8 racing and Figure 8 Trailer racing until March of 2019. Thus, champions will be crowned in both of those classes on Saturday night.

In the Figure 8 class, Beaumont based respiratory therapist Jesse Gordon pretty much has his second championship in a row under lock and key. Coming into the night he has a 39-point lead over 2015 champion Earl Cox of Norco. Cox’s brother Kevin, of Foothill Ranch, is only three points behind his sibling. Another Cox, Kevin’s son Kyle who resides in Huntington Beach, Is fourth in the championship standings. Norwalk’s Ron Davis, who will race anything anywhere and at any time, is fifth. Basically, all Gordon needs to do is take the green flag in the main event to secure his second straight Figure 8 title.

Things are much tighter in the figure 8 trailer championship standings. Kyle Cox has a slender 11-point lead over Menifee’s Ken McWilliams heading into the final race of the year. Gordon is third, but is 27-points behind the leader. Nuevo’s Ryan Kinnett, who won the first PAS Figure 8 Trailer championship three years ago, sits fourth with Rob Multhaupt of Orange fifth.

Titles that will not be decided this weekend are the Democross and Overall Iron Man Championships. After Saturday, there will still be two Democross races this season on October 14th at the 105th Annual Southern California Fair. Going into this week’s Democross, Kyle Cox has a 39-point lead over Gordon, Costa Mesa’s J.D. Wilson, rookie Michael Schattilly of Whittier and Wildomar’s Weston Hughes, who are all tied for second.

The Overall Iron Man Title, which combines the points from all three of the aforementioned classes, will come down to the two Sunday races In October. Gordon, Who is seeking his second straight championship in that as well, Kyle Cox by 10 points. Kinnett, McWilliams and Romoland’s Garrett McCourt round out the top five.

Kevin Madsen of Newport Beach has the Formula X & CrossKart championship sewed up.

The 4 Cylinder class will be making its second appearance on Saturday. The class was not announced until June and had more than 10 entries at its first race one month ago. From chatter on the Internet, officials are expecting more cars to enter this this weekend. In 2019, the class will compete all season long and will be a full points class that will see a champion crowned after the final race of the year.

Track officials urge fans to come out early to meet all the drivers, get autographs and take photos at the on-track autograph session that will begin at 5:15 on Saturday.
