PASSCAR STOCK CAR AND IMCA MODIFIED SEASON HITS MIDWAY POINT SATURDAY AT PERRIS!
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, June 5, 2018) The PASSCAR Stock Car Series and IMCA Modified season at Perris Auto Speedway reaches the halfway point in the 2018 season this Saturday, June 9th. The show will feature Street Stocks, Super Stocks, Factory Stocks and the IMCA Modifieds. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 and the first race will take the green flag at 7:00.

Despite being accidentally clobbered by another driver at the May 12th race at The PAS, Winnemucca, Nevada’s Cory Sample continues to lead the IMCA/PAS Modified standings. Sample, who was Last year’s IMCA Western Region Champion, was saddled with an 11th place finish after the blow. That came after a sizzling streak of five straight top three’s, including one win, in the first five IMCA races at The PAS this year.

Yucaipa’s Chuck Becker, who won the PAS Modified title in 2017 and the track IMCA Modified championship in 2016, trails Sample by 15-points going into Saturday’s race. After a slow start to the 2018 campaign, Becker has notched up his game and has finished third and fourth in the last two races. Corona’s Terry Hershberger, who is ninth in California State IMCA points, is third in The PAS chase. Bradley Morris of Romoland and Riverside’s Dave Clark round out the top five. Hemet’s David Lord was last month’s IMCA winner.

In the PASSCAR Street Stocks, Riverside’s Luke Dodd, a four-time PAS champion, has been dominating again in 2018. In 2017 he won all, but one Street Stock main. Thus far this year, he has won three of the first four races. The only race he did not win came when he had a flat tire, had to restart at the back and came through the traffic to finish fifth. Temecula’s Blaine Whitson, who won the night Dodd had the flat, is second in the championship standings and is only seven points behind the leader. Chris Leventis of Rancho Palos Verdes, who is enjoying his best season thus far, is third and is only 16-markers behind Dodd. Three-time track champion Curtis Dietzsch of Riverside and Victorville’s Mike Hains are tied for fourth.

El Cajon’s Mike Lerwell, the 2016 PASSCAR Super Stock champion, is on top of the heap once again. Lerwell won the season opener in February and has finished second in the last two races. That is good enough to put him 13-points clear of Beaumont’s Ricky Lee. Two-time PAS Super Stock “King” Dennis Wooldridge is third and Steve Worstell of San Diego is fourth. Riverside’s Fred Estrada and Cherry Valley’s Danny Webster are tied for fifth. Buena Park’s Billy Griffin, who was The PAS Modified champion in 2013, won the last Super Stock race in May.

Todd Fassler ascended to the top of the PASSCAR Factory Stock point standings in a strange fashion at the last race on May 12th. The El Cajon driver crossed under the checkered flag in fourth place, but when the top three finishers were disqualified for not passing tech, Fassler was awarded the win and took over the point lead. Second-year PAS driver Cameron Veatch of Temecula is six-point behind the leader. Nuevo veteran Mike Burks, Menifee’s Kris Carnish and Swede Ogren of Anza comprise the remainder of the top five.

All drivers will run heat races and main events (preliminary main events as well if needed) on Saturday.

Adult tickets for Saturday’s race are $15.00. Active military members with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 get in for just $5.00. Children five and under are free. Parking on the fairgrounds is $8.00.

Advance tickets for all PAS events, including the July 4th Night of Destruction and November’s 23rd Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals presented by All Coast Construction, are available 24 hours a day online at https://pas.tix.com/Schedule.aspx?OrgNum=7 or by calling 1-800-595-4849. For fans who do not want to buy advance tickets, there will be plenty available for everyone at the ticket window each race night.
