PASSCAR STOCK CARS AND IMCA MODIFIEDS RETURN TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY!
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, May 9, 2017) The three classes of the PASSCAR Stock Car Series and the IMCA Modifieds return to Perris Auto Speedway on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds this Saturday night, May 13th, for round #3 of the 2017 season. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.

The biggest story thus far in the four classes of PASSCAR is three-time and defending Street Stock champion Luke Dodd of Riverside. The Rubidoux High School graduate has schooled the competition and won the first two main events of the season and carries a 9-point lead over 2002 class champion “Big George” Boulden of Lake Elsinore. Riverside drivers Eddie Gurwell, the 2014 Street Stock champ, and Casey MacDonald occupy third and fourth in the championship standings. Blaine Whitson of Temecula, who won the title two years ago, is fifth. Other past PAS Street Stock champions expected to be in competition on Saturday are Temecula’s Henry Wesoloski (2006 and 2009 champ) and Murrieta’s Stefan Davies who won the crown in 2011.

Lomita’s Mike Kirby looked like he was going to win the first two IMCA Modified main events of 2017, but while cruising to his second victory on April 8th, something happened that put him into the turn one crashwall. That allowed Joseph Altig of Imperial Beach to win his first ever PAS IMCA main event. That crash propelled Kirby’s good friend, Billy Wormsbecker of Big Bear, a past champion at the Victorville Speedway, into the track’s IMCA point lead heading into Saturday’s race. Ironically, the crash also put Kirby’s 20-year-old daughter, Brenda, into second in the standings and she only trails Wormsbecker by 2-points. 2016 champion Chuck Becker of Yucaipa and newcomer Frank Politelli are tied for third and are 4-points behind the leader. Mike Kirby and Becker’s son Brandon, a San Bernardino County Sheriff, are tied for fifth.

With several tracks not running IMCA Modifieds this week, fans can expect to see some out of town racers come in to challenge The PAS regulars.

Defending Super Stock champ Mike Lerwell of El Cajon has parlayed a couple of second place finishes into a 9-point lead over local racer Fred Estrada of Riverside going into Saturday’s race. Estrada won the season opener and Norco’s Tom Smith took the checkered on April 8th. Beaumont’s Ricky Lee, Sheffield, England native Andy Moreton and Patrick Tone of Huntington Beach make up the rest of the top five. Lee, with a third and a fourth, is the only driver besides Lerwell with top five finishes in the first two races of the year.

After finishing second in the season opener in March and winning the last race in April, teenager James Altman Jr. of Lake Elsinore sits on top of the points heap in the Factory Stock class before this week’s race. The second generation leads 2015 champ Jeff Elder of Redlands by 10-points. Norco 14-year-old Alyssa Smith, Mike Burks of Nuevo and Menifee’s Kris Carnish are ranked third through fifth.

With a win and a second place finish, James Altman Jr. of Lake Elsinore is the early leader in the PASSCAR American Factory Stock point standings. Please give photo credit to Doug Allen.

All drivers will contest heat races, B main events if applicable and A main events on Saturday.

Adult tickets for Saturday’s show are $15.00. Active military with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 get in for just $5.00. Children 5 and under are free. Parking on the fairgrounds is $8.00.
