THREE PAS REGULARS FINISH IN TOP 10 AT THE CHILI BOWL NATIONALS!
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, January 17, 2017) Three regular competitors in the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series at Perris Auto Speedway, Jake Swanson, Ronnie Gardner and Damion Gardner, placed in the top 10 in the prestigious Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Oklahoma last Saturday night. Oklahoma’s Christopher Bell, who won the 2015 Turkey Night Grand Prix at The PAS, won the 55-lap A main event before a packed house.

The Chili Bowl Midget Nationals attracts cars and drivers from small bull rings from as far away as New Zealand and Australia to drivers who contest the Daytona 500. This year 375 drivers entered the Chili Bowl which stretches five days inside the River City Expo Center in Tulsa. Of all those, Swanson finished fifth in the main event, Ronnie Gardner was ninth and Damion Gardner, who won the Chili Bowl A main in 2008, was tenth.

“It is a real tough job just to make it into the A main at the Chili Bowl,” Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian said on Monday. “Finishing in the top ten is a true accomplishment. There were nearly 400 hundred entries this year with championship caliber drivers from many different disciplines. All three of these guys did a fantastic job and represented the west coast well. Congratulations to all three of them and we look forward to seeing them at The PAS regular season opener on March 4th.”

For Swanson and Gardner, who were teammates in Tulsa for Six 8 Motorsports, it was their first ever-Saturday night A main events at the Chili Bowl. Both qualified straight into the Saturday A main via preliminary features during the week. Swanson, a 23-year-old from Anaheim, won the B main on Wednesday and then thrilled the crowd going from 18th to second in the A main a few minutes later. Two nights later, 28-year-old Ronnie Gardner, the four-time defending USAC Western Midget champion from Corona, finished third in the A main event to earn a coveted ticket into Saturday’s finale. Damion Gardner, who resides in Concord, was sixth in the A main on Friday and qualified for the “Big Dance” through the B main on Saturday.

Corona’s Ronnie Gardner finished 9th in his first ever Chili Bowl Saturday night A main event last weekend. Please give photo credit to Doug Allen.

Damion Gardner, who won the prestigious Budweiser Oval Nationals at The PAS for the third-time last November, will be in his familiar Mark Alexander owned silver #4 as he opens defense of his crown at the Riverside County speed plant’s regular season opener on March 4th. Swanson, who finished fourth in the championship point standings in 2016, will be back in the well-known Moose Racing #92 for 2016. Ronnie Gardner, who does not have a full-time sprint car ride due to his midget obligations, is currently searching for a ride for the season opener.

PAS regular and 5-time USAC/CRA champion Damion Gardner of Concord finished 10th at the Chili Bowl. Please give photo credit to Doug Allen.

In addition to the three mentioned drivers, a full field of USAC/CRA stars is expected to be on hand when the USAC/CRA Series opens its 14th season with the annual Sokola Shootout six weeks from Saturday. In addition, The PAS Senior and Young Guns will also be in action.

Advance tickets for the season opener are available 24 hours a day online at the following link http://pas.tix.com/Event.aspx?EventCode=922969 or by calling 1-800-595-4849. For fans who do not wish to purchase tickets in advance, there will be plenty available for everyone at the ticket window on opening night.
