BADGER FINALLY WINS PAS SENIOR SPRINT MAIN - MORRIS ENDS WILLIAMS’ YOUNG GUN WIN STREAK!
(Perris, CA, June 19, 2014)
In his fourth season of trying, Santa Clarita, California’s Bill Badger finally won his first ever Perris Auto Speedway Senior Sprint Car main event last Saturday night. In the companion Young Gun Sprint Car main, Holtville’s George Morris led all 15-laps to end Trent Williams’ three race win streak.

Ventura’s Bruce Douglass, seeking his fourth win in five starts in the Senior Class in 2014, put the Victor Davis owned #13 into the lead at the start of the 20-lap main event from his pole position starting spot. Ramona’s Rich Bender was second on the start, but was quickly passed by defending champion Rick Hendrix of Palmdale as the field exited turn two.

Douglass, who won the championship in 2012 and who is the current point leader, quickly built a comfortable lead. Hendrix, the 2013 champion, who put an end to Douglass three race win streak at the last race on May 24th, was not making up any ground on the leader. It appeared if anything was going to beat Douglass it would be mechanical problems or himself. Unfortunately it became the later when he spun by himself when he had an eight car length lead bringing out a yellow flag.

Douglass had to go to the tail end of the field for the restart with Hendrix on the pole and Badger second. Most in the grandstands figured the race would be all Hendrix, but someone forgot to tell Badger. He blasted by Hendrix for the lead on the restart and immediately began to move away. When the checkered ended the 20-lapper the Badger Brothers Racing #75 had a five-length lead over Hendrix. Ed Schwarz of Santa Fe Springs, Jesse Denome of San Diego and Bender rounded out the top five.

The happy winner, who won the first ever PAS Senior Sprint Car championship in 2011, climbed out of the car and punched the night air.

“Finally I got a win here,” he happily told the crowd. “I have finished second here nine times and this is my first win.”

In the Young Gun main, it was all Morris for his first PAS win of 2014. Driving the Morris Farms/Desert Glass Cory Kruseman owned #3K, the 19-year-old led every inch of the way. That may make it sound like it was easy, but it was anything but that. Morris had to fight off the persistent challenges of the undefeated Williams turn after turn and straightaway after straightaway for all 15-laps.

While Morris had to fight off Williams the entire distance for the win, the third place position changed hands several times before Menifee’s Mikey Lovas finally clung to the spot till the finish. Lake Forest’s Mitch Collins ended up fourth with Malyssa Young of Oak Hills fifth.

Denome and Hendrix won the Senior heats and Lake Elsinore’s Parker Colston won the Young Gun heat.

The Senior Sprints, for drivers 45 and older, and the Young Guns, for drivers 14-21, will return to the PAS along with the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, California Lightning Sprint Cars and the biggest and best fireworks show in Riverside County on July 4th.
