NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION SATURDAY AT PERRIS - BONUS & BOUNTY MONEY UP FOR GRABS!
(Perris, CA, June 3, 2014)
Back in April, Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian announced some interesting bonus money and a bounty for Night of Destruction #2. The longtime race organizer offered a $500.00 bonus to any driver who could win both the regular Figure 8 main and the Democross main in the same car. In addition, going back to a tradition from the days of Ascot, Kazarian was offering up a $250.00 bounty on any driver who could beat Figure 8 racing star Earl Cox Jr. of Norco to win the main event. Unfortunately the big winner on the night was Mother Nature as rain forced cancellation of the show. This Saturday, June 7th, the popular show returns and Kazarian said all of the bonus money and the bounty will still be in place. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with the motorized mayhem set to commence at 7:00. In addition to the classes mentioned above, there will also be a Figure 8 Trailer race and the crowd pleasing spectator races.

Before the rainout Kazarian talked of the bonus money and the bounty and nothing has changed since his initial statement.

“This is an incentive to any driver to try and win both main events,” Kazarian said. “A lot of drivers enter both of those events, but then some will just save their car for the Democross main which is the last race of the night. They both pay the same amount of money to win ($500.00) so if a driver wins both and collects the bonus and the bounty he will walk away with a big paycheck.”

A bounty in racing actually goes back to the early days of the sport and was popular for decades. When one driver put together a long victory string, tracks would offer up a bounty to see if anyone could beat that racer. To say the least, Cox has dominated the Figure 8 races on the Nights of Destruction over the past few seasons.

“Earl is a good driver, he has the best car and he has dominated our Figure 8 races at The PAS,” Kazarian said in April. “I would have to check to be sure, but I think it has been more than two years since he has lost a main event here. The bounty should make things more competitive this weekend. On top of that, I have heard we will have at least one and maybe two new Figure 8 cars coming out this Saturday. One of the cars has won a lot of main events over the years so it is going to be tough.”

In order for the bounty to kick in, Cox has to start the Figure 8 main event in his familiar red and yellow winged #27. Thus, one driver could possibly win $1,750.00 if he won both the Figure 8 and Democross main events.

The car to beat in the bone jarring Figure 8 races at Perris Auto Speedway is the #27 of Norco’s Earl Cox Jr. If any driver beats him in Saturday’s main event, they will picket a $250.00 bonus.

Like Cox in the regular Figure 8 races, Menifee’s Ken McWilliams has dominated the Figure 8 Trailer racing at the famous Riverside County clay oval over the past few years. That was all set to change in April when the friendly driver was set to miss the race due to an out of town family function. Much to the chagrin of the other drivers, that function was only two days long and McWilliams will be back in action on Saturday. If anyone is to beat Cox and pick up the $250.00 bonus, McWilliams would be one of the favorites to do so. The driver, who grew up watching Sunday night Figure 8 racing at Ascot, has been runner up to Cox in almost all his wins the past two seasons.

Spectator racing, which will also be on the program on Saturday, matches two drivers in their street cars on the track at the same time. One starts in the middle of the back straight and one starts on the middle of the front straight (so they do not have to worry about crashing into each) and the first one to complete two laps wins. The winner of each two-lap race moves on in the competition until there are only two cars left for the final. It is a winner take all final with the victor taking home a beautiful trophy and large chunk of money. However, the winner will not be done at that point. He or she will then take on a track regular racer in “Can You Beat a Redneck.” If they beat the regular driver, they will take home a large bonus. The track’s all-time winningest Spectator driver and sometimes crowd villain, “Wide Open” Wayne Williams, will be back in action on Saturday and plans on taking home all of the dough.

Saturday will also include The PAS, “Drive for $100,000.00” for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. At intermission drivers will be in the stands collecting money in their helmets to help fight the dreaded disease.

For more information call The PAS at: (951) 940-0134.

Camping for all events at The PAS is available for $25.00 per night. The campground will open at noon on Friday. Tailgating in the spectator parking lot will begin at 1:00 PM for all PAS events as well.
