NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION #2 SATURDAY AT PERRIS - BONUS & BOUNTY MONEY UP FOR GRABS!
(Perris, CA, April 22, 2014)
Perris Auto Speedway will host the wildly popular “Night of Destruction #2” this Saturday, April 26. The crazy night of racing and family fun will include wild Figure 8’s, a Figure 8 Trailer race, Democross and Spectator races. For drivers in the Democross and Figure 8 classes, promoter Don Kazarian is offering an extra bonus and an old style racing bounty. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM for the night of motorized madness with the first race taking place at 7:00.

Last Sunday night on the San Diego Motorsports Radio Show, it was announced that Kazarian was offering a $500.00 bonus to any driver who could win both the regular Figure 8 main and the Democross main in the same car. In addition, going back to a tradition from the days of Ascot, Kazarian is offering up a $250.00 bounty on Figure 8 racing star Earl Cox Jr. of Norco. If any driver other than Cox wins the regular Figure 8 main event, that driver will collect an extra $250.00. Cox has to start the Figure 8 main event for the bounty to kick in. Thus, one driver could possibly win $1,750.00 if he won both the Figure 8 and Democross main events.

“This is an incentive to any driver to try and win both main events,” Kazarian said. “A lot of drivers enter both of those events, but then some will just save their car for the Democross main which is the last race of the night. They both pay the same amount of money to win ($500.00) so if a driver wins both and collects the bonuses he will walk away with a big paycheck.”

A bounty in racing actually goes back to the early days of the sport and was popular for decades. When one driver put together a long victory string, tracks would offer up a bounty to see if anyone could beat him. To say the least, Cox has dominated the Figure 8 races on the Nights of Destruction in his bright red #27 race car.

“Earl is a good driver, he has the best car and he has dominated our Figure 8 races at The PAS,” Kazarian said with a smile. “I would have to check to be sure, but I think it has been more than two years since he has lost a main event here. The bounty should make things more competitive this weekend. On top of that, I have heard we will have at least one and maybe two new Figure 8 cars coming out this Saturday. One of the cars has won a lot of main events over the years so it is going to be tough.”

One thing that will change will be the Figure 8 Trailer race. Like Cox in the regular Figure 8’s, Menifee’s Ken McWilliams has dominated the Figure 8 Trailer races the past couple years. However, he will be missing Saturday’s race due a family function in Las Vegas and that will open it up for a brand new winner and the $500.00 winners pay day.

“Ken not being here should be an incentive for some other drivers to hook up a trailer for the Figure 8 Trailer race,” Kazarian stated. “He has that stuff down to a science and he is as tough in the Trailer race as Earl is in the Figure 8’s. Another thing to also remember is Ken almost always finishes second to Earl in the Figure 8 mains. Other drivers need to take advantage of Ken’s absence this Saturday as he will be back for the other Nights of Destruction we have scheduled this year.

Spectator racing, which will also be on the program on Saturday, matches two drivers in their street cars on the track at the same time. One starts in the middle of the back straight and one starts on the middle of the front straight (so they do not have to worry about crashing into each) and the first one to complete two laps wins. The winner of each two-lap race moves on in the competition until there are only two cars left for the final. It is a winner take all final with the victor taking home a beautiful trophy and large chunk of money. However, the winner will not be done at that point. He or she will then take on track regular Steven “Bam Bam” Fangmeyer in his Modified in “Can You Beat a Redneck.” If they beat Fangmeyer, they will take home a large bonus. The track’s all-time winningest Spectator driver and sometimes crowd villain, “Wide Open” Wayne Williams, will be back in action on Saturday and plans on taking home all of the dough.

Saturday will be night #2 of the tracks, “Drive for $100,000.00” for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. At intermission drivers will be in the stands collecting money in their helmets to help fight the dreaded disease.
