CALIFORNIA RACE TEAM SUFFERS MAJOR LOSSES IN BURGLARY!
(Perris, CA, February 17, 2014) Leading California late model team Bartels Racing suffered devastating losses when their race shop was burglarized late last Friday night or early Sunday morning.

The thieves got away with three complete late model race engines, one Pro Power short block, parts for a modified engine, a custom built Harley Hot Rod Car, a red F-250 truck, a Bartels Racing enclosed trailer, tools & machines, XR 50 Honda pit bike and more. The theft took place in Los Angeles County on the border between the cities of Gardena and Compton.

The stolen parts are from the late models driven by Bill & Nick Bartels, Mike Kirby and Carla Laney and the modified raced by Cody Laney.

“We hope someone recognizes the stuff and calls us,” an exasperated Carla Laney said on Sunday night. “If somebody sees something that could be stolen from us, please give us a call. We have serial numbers.”

Anyone with information can call Laney at 310 941-0433 or Kirby at 310 806-5889.

“If somebody offers you a $30,000.00 engine for $1,000.00, you know it is hot,” Dave Stall said on his San Diego Motorsports radio show on Sunday night. “There is no excuse for stealing somebody else’s property. I hate thieves. If anybody in the San Diego area sees or knows anything about this theft, please contact me immediately at mailto:stalld@cox.net

Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian, where all of the drivers from the team have raced at one time or another over the years, also chimed in on the theft.

“This really stinks,” Kazarian said. “These are good people who work hard so they can race. I certainly hope they get all of their stuff back in the same condition as it was when it was stolen. And, I hope the criminals who perpetuated this are caught and convicted for their crimes.”
