(Perris, CA, September 18, 2013) Bradley Morris and veteran Jimmy Crawford won the PAS Young Gun and Senior Sprint Car Main events and Logan Williams sewed up the first ever PAS Young Guns championship in front of another large crowd last Saturday night in the Glenn Howard Memorial at “The Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing,” Perris Auto Speedway.

Morris, who resides in nearby Menifee, got the jump on the start over fellow Menifee resident and point leader Chancellor Tiscareno. Lake Elsinore’s Parker Colston found his way to second by end of the first circuit.

After a yellow flag on lap two, Morris stayed at the point while Tiscareno and Williams relegated Colston back to fourth. Williams then took the second spot from Tiscareno as the point leader’s car was slowing dramatically. By the end of the third circuit Tiscareno had dropped to the back. He ran a few more laps at a very slow speed before officials black flagged him for safety reasons. When he pulled into the pits, it was clearly evident that a rod had exited through the oil pan.

By lap eight, Morris, who was seeking his second win in a row, built a small lead, but Williams was not done. He charged back up to the leader and dogged him all the way to the checkered flag. Williams continually tried to find his way by on the inside including a last corner effort, but Morris’ car stuck like glue to the bottom and he scored the season closing win. Williams claimed second and was followed by Colston, Hemet’s Alexander Bissett and Menifee’s Mikey Lovas in the top five.

The dramatic night also decided the championship. Tiscareno, who had been in the number one spot in the standings since early May, had a heartbreaking end to the season. He came in to the next to last race with an 18-point lead, but a lap one tangle in that event saw him get upside down. His car was too damaged to finish and he ended up last. Thus he came into Saturday’s race with a 9-point lead. Had one less car showed up either night or one car had dropped out of either main before him, he would have tied Williams for the championship. Likewise, if Williams had not missed the May 4th race, he would have had a comfortable lead in the points heading into the final race.

Williams won the championship by a mere 3-points over Tiscareno. Lake Forest’s Mitch Collins ended up third, just 3-points in back of Ticareno. Lovas and Morris finished fourth and fifth respectively in the championship standings.

Logan Williams of Yorba Linda, the teenage son of National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Rip Williams, is the 2013 PAS Young Gun Sprint Car champion.

Former Ventura Racing Association Sprint Car champion Jimmy Crawford was making a rare appearance at The PAS as he was shaking down his car for the October 31st Oval Nationals 360 Championship. Starting fifth in the 11-car field, he passed 2012 champion Bruce Douglass of Ventura on lap three and then held off 2013 series point leader Rick Hendrix of Palmdale for the win in the 20-lap Senior Sprint main event.

Despite a car that was smoking for most of the race, Crawford, who calls Ventura home, led every inch of the way after taking the lead. At one point, he had built up a comfortable advantage, but Hendrix, who was trying to take his series leading fourth PAS win of the campaign, chased Crawford down and dogged him all the way to the finish. When the Kevin Winters’ checkered flag brought the proceedings to a halt at the end of lap 20, Crawford was two lengths in front of Hendrix. Douglass was third, half a straightaway back. Santa Clarita’s Bill Badger, the 2011 series champ, was fourth and Santa Fe Springs Ed Schwarz was fifth.

Making a rare PAS appearance, Ventura’s Jimmy Crawford won The PAS Senior Sprint Car Main event last Saturday night.

Heading into the Budweiser Oval Nationals Presented by All Coast Construction on the first weekend in November, Hendrix has an 18-point lead in the championship standings over Douglass. Schwarz, who is 48-points behind, and Simi Valley’s Victor Davis, who trails by 120-points, are the only other two drivers with a mathematical chance of catching the leader.

Earlier in the night, Crawford and Hendrix won the Senior Sprint Car heats and champion Williams won the Young Guns heat.
