(Perris, CA, August 21, 2013) Three-time USAC champion Rick Hendrix and teenager Bradley Morris scored wins in the PAS Senior and Young Gun Sprint Cars respectively at the California Racer’s Hall of Fame Night last Saturday at “The Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing,” Perris Auto Speedway.

For Hendrix, the point leader in the series, the win was his third in six outings at the famous half-mile clay oval in 2013. He started the main event on the inside of the second row and relived defending champion Bruce Douglass of the lead at the end of the first circuit.

Douglass, who calls Ventura home, took the lead back on lap 10 and managed to hold the top spot for two laps until Hendrix charged to the inside of him going into turn one on the 12th go around. The two cars made contact and Hendrix came out with the lead. From that point on, there was no catching the Palmdale veteran and he won the 20-lap race by five car lengths. Douglass took the second place spot with Corona rookie Steve Brown recording his best ever finish in third. Bob Alderman of Santa Inez and Ed Schwartz of Santa Fe Springs rounded out the top five.

Earlier in the night, Hendrix and Brown won the two eight-lap heat races.

For Morris, who lives in nearby Menifee, his triumph was his first in the PAS Young Gun Series and came in only his second ever sprint car race.

The race started off with a bang when point leader Chancellor Tiscareno, also of Menifee, got turned upside down in turn two on the first lap. While the young star was uninjured, his car was too damaged to continue and he was done for the night.

Morris took the lead in the time shortened event on lap seven when he and Yorba Linda’s Logan Williams, who had won the last two mains, raced by first time sprint car racer Parker Colston of Lake Elsinore. When Kevin Winters showed the field the checkered flag Morris won over Williams, Colston, Hemet’s Alexander Bissett and Mitch Collins of Lake Elsinore. Holtville’s George Morris won the Young Gun heat earlier in the night.

With three races remaining in the season, Hendrix leads Douglass by 15-points in the championship chase.

Despite his flip and DNF, Tiscareno, who came in with an 18-lead over Collins in the Young Gun title fight, still holds a nine-point lead heading into the final race on September 14th. Williams is third only 15-points behind Tiscareno and just six in back of Collins.
