RACING IS A FAMILY SPORT FOR THE EVERHART’S FAMILY! |
|
(APRIL 28, 2009, PERRIS, CA) When the PASSCAR Street Stocks return to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, May 2nd, the Everhart family battle will continue. Not a feud, but just a good fun battle between “Big Jake” Everhart, his wife Ronnie and their 15 year old son Dalton who will all be racing against each other for the fourth time this season. Spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM with racing at 5:00. In addition to the Everhart clan and all of the other Street Stock drivers, the Super Stocks, Modifieds, Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks, Sport Compacts and the California Lightning Sprint Cars will also be in action.
Attached to this release is a photo of the racing Everhart family. Son Dalton (#72) is on the inside with Mom Ronnie (#17) sandwiched in the middle with father Jake (#12) on the outside. Please feel free to use the photo in conjunction with this week’s race news and please give photo credit to Doug Allen.
Last Saturday night when the Street Stocks raced with the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars at The PAS, Jake finished third in the main, Ronnie was fifth and rookie Dalton, in only his third race, was 13th. Heading into the event, Jake led the point standings with Ronnie a mere six points behind in second. Jake is seeking his first ever track championship while Ronnie won The PAS’ first two Sport Compact championships in 2003 and 2004.
“The Everhart’s are a great family,” Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian said. “They are also great racers. And, what can you say about Ronnie? She is one of the most popular drivers ever to race with us and it seems there is nothing she cannot do or will not do to help with the track or fellow racers.”
Kazarian speaks first hand on what Ronnie can do. “A few years ago I gave her a microphone at the Sprint Car races and teamed her with the great Chris Holt to do interviews with the drivers. She was a natural and now teamed with Chris, they are the best in the business. Our crowd loves both of them. She also makes most of the facility signs (she owns Graphic Concepts in Riverside) you see around the grandstand area of the track.”
Ronnie not only shares the infield interviews on Saturday with Holt, but for the past couple years on PASSCAR Stock Car nights, she does it by herself. That would not be a big deal, but when you consider she also races on the same night, it is a major undertaking. And, she would not have it any other way. She relinquished the microphone for part of one night late last season and quickly realized that was a mistake. By the following Monday morning she called and asked if she could have the duty back and management was delighted to hear her request and she will handle the microphone for as long as she desires.
Everhart is known as the “Red Hot Racing Grandma.” She picked up that moniker for two reasons. For one, she is a grandmother. The other reason was comedic chase that took place at the track in 2004 when Everhart’s car caught fire and she circled the track on flames with the fire truck chasing after her.
Saturday’s show will feature the Street Stocks, Super Stocks and Modifieds on the famous PAS half-mile. The Lightning Sprints, who will take off their wings, will be on the quarter-mile along with the Sports Compacts and Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks.
Last month when the Lightning Sprints took off their wings and raced on The PAS quarter-mile, most insiders agree it was their best ever race at The PAS. Stuart Hielscher Jr., who won the main event that night and who has won two of the first three races at The PAS this year, will miss Saturday’s race due to his High School Prom. Replacing him will be Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car star. David Cardey. Cardey, who makes his home in Riverside, won the USAC/CRA main event at The PAS last Saturday night.
Saturday’s program will include heats and fender bendin’ main events for all of the classes.
Between 4:00 and 5:00 PM, all fans can purchase two for the price of one food items at the concession stands. This offer does not include beverages or value menu items.
