PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY OPENS PASSCAR SEASON
WITH 7 DIVISIONS THIS SATURDAY! |
|
(MARCH 3, 2009, PERRIS, CA) This Saturday night, March 7th, Perris Auto Speedway will kick of its 2009 PASSCAR season. A huge seven division show is on deck with an old friend - The PAS quarter-mile track - coming back for the first time in nearly a decade. While the Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Modifieds and Winged California Lightning Sprint Cars will battle it out on the famous PAS half-mile clay oval, the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks, NMRA Three-Quarter Midgets and the CDCRA Dwarf Cars will fight it out on the quarter-mile. Spectator gates will open at 3:00 PM with the first heat race at 4:00 and the first main event at 6:30.
Grimacing through the pain of a broken ankle he suffered last Friday, Perris promoter Don Kazarian talked about the return of the quarter-mile track. “I thought it over for a long time. Some divisions are much more competitive on the quarter-mile than the half-mile and it will allow us to bring more diverse racing to The PAS,” he said. “In addition to the three divisions this Saturday, the Lightning Sprints are going to take off their wings and run on the quarter-mile in the future as will the Sport Compacts, Focus & Jr. Focus Midgets, Gene Romero’s West Coast Flat Track Series and Speedway Motorcycles. I think it is going to add to the show.”
It is expected that Saturday’s widely varied show will draw in the neighborhood of 100 race cars. Defending PASSCAR champions Ed Perry of Carpinteria in the Super Stocks, Kevin Busher of Hemet in the Modifieds, Curtis Dietzsch of Moreno Valley in the Street Stocks and Ron Davis of Norwalk in the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks are all expected to be on hand on Saturday to open defense of their titles. Smooth driving Dietzsch is attempting to become the first ever three-time PASSCAR Street Stock champion after winning the crown the past two years.
With the extra divisions and cars in action this year, The PAS has changed the race day schedule for PASSCAR events as noted in the first paragraph with the spectator gates opening at 3:00 PM, heats at 4:00 and the first main event at 6:30.
“Seven divisions? There is something for everybody in this program,” Kazarian said while propped up on his crutches. “With this many cars and this many races, we are starting earlier this year. I am really looking forward to Saturday.”
Early arriving fans can enjoy two for the price of one food items from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. This offer excludes beverages and value menu items.
Saturday’s mind, tire and engine blowing display of speed and courage will include heat races and main events for all divisions. It will also include its share of crashes and, of course, the accompanying short fuses that are inherent in short track racing.
