(OCTOBER 16, PERRIS, CA) The
World’s fastest Sprint Cars, the World of Outlaws, will
make a rare Southern California appearance this Saturday
night, October 20th, at Perris Auto Speedway. The event will
mark the Outlaw’s first race under the bright lights of
the Riverside County clay oval since 2004. Spectator gates
will open at 4:00 PM with racing at 7:00.
Heading the list of entries for Saturday’s high-speed
drama will be the legendary “King of the Outlaws” Steve
Kinser from Bloomington, Indiana. The popular 53-year old
has won the World of Outlaws championship 20-times and has
the amazing total of 542 World of Outlaw main event wins.
“Getting the opportunity to watch Steve Kinser is like
watching Willie Mays play baseball or Wayne Gretzky play
hockey,” Perris promoter Don Kazarian said from behind his
desk on Monday afternoon. “Simply put he is a legend. He
is everything to Sprint Car racing that Gretzky and Mays are
to their respective sports.”
Indeed Kinser is a legend and his 542 wins have come at
tracks across the nation. He has won on obscure small town
ovals and he has won on the most famous dirt tracks in the
country including the Eldora Speedway in Ohio, Iowa’s
Knoxville Raceway, Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania
and the legendary Ascot Park in Gardena, California.
However, Kinser, who placed 14th in the 1997 Indianapolis
500 and won the 1994 IROC Race at Talladega, has never won a
main event at Perris Auto Speedway. The World of Outlaws
have made 10 appearances at The PAS and Kinser’s best
outing came on February 23, 2003 when finished second in a
photo finish to Oklahoma native Daryn Pittman.
While Kinser is the legend, the driver to beat on Saturday
is Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz. The 30 year old
defending World of Outlaws champion won his third straight
main event last Saturday at the Thunderbowl Raceway in
Tulare, California and leads Brownsburg, Indiana’s Joey
Saldana by 107 points with just four races to go in the 2007
campaign.
“I am really looking forward to Saturday night,”
Kazarian said. “And, so are a lot of fans as tickets sales
have been brisk. It will be exciting to see all of the
Outlaw stars in person. These cars are so fast! I wonder how
many drivers will qualify in the 13 second bracket?”
In addition to the rare appearance of the World of Outlaws,
there will be a special PASSCAR Modified Invitational race
on the card. Southern California stock car legend Rick
Becker, from Highland, will be one of the favorites in the
Modifieds.
