(JUNE
26, 2007, PERRIS, CA) The final night of Perris Auto
Speedway’s Annual Kid’s Month will be this Saturday,
June 30th. All kids 12 and under will be admitted free when
an adult accompanies them. Saturday’s racing program will
include the MC Builder Super Stocks, PASSCAR Modifieds &
Street Stocks and the California Lightning Sprint Cars.
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:30.
Speaking
of Kid’s Month, a pair of hot racing 14 year-old drivers
have been the focus of many at the track this year.
Christian Stover from El Cajon, California and Tommy
“Thunder” Malcolm of Corona, California have been
impressive in the Lightning Sprint and the Street Stocks
this year. Stover won the main event when the Lightning
Sprint Cars last appeared at the track on June 2nd. Malcolm,
who is the step son of Late Model star Dino Napier and the
brother of Late Model racer Johnny “Lightning” Malcolm,
has only been on the track three or four times. However, he
has been very smooth and shows a great deal of track
knowledge. His beat finish came on May 5th when he crossed
the line in 6th.
Riverside’s
Jim Coates heads into Saturday’s race as the new point
leader in the Street Stock class. The likeable veteran took
the point lead with a third place finish two weeks ago.
The
Super Stocks return to action for the first time since May
19th. Defending series champion Mark Shackelford of
Riverside, California holds a slender 3-point lead over his
Carpinteria, California teammate Ed Perry going into
Saturday’s race. Shackelford, who is also a regular and
former champion at the Orange Show Speedway, and Perry both
drive for Jerry and Pam Dodd.
Apple
Valley, California’s Randy Thornell will bring a huge
55-point lead over Corona, California driver Johnny Lathrop
when the PASSCAR Modifieds take to the track on Saturday
night. Hemet, California driver Kevin Busher is third in the
standings. Joe Haresky, of Phelan, California, won his first
PAS main event in the Modifieds two weeks ago.
Saturday’s
festival of fendered fisticuffs and speed will include heat
races and 20 lap main events for every class. B main events
will be contested if applicable.
In
addition to Saturday's race on the half-mile clay oval,
there will be drag racing on Friday at the popular Street
Legal Strip at The PAS where you can race your own car for
just $30.00. Gates at the will open at 5:00 PM with racing
at 6:00 at the Drag Strip.
