(MAY 15, 2007, PERRIS, CA)
The hottest driver at Perris Auto Speedway, Torrance,
California's Mike Kirby, will try to run his victory streak
to five straight races on 1950's Night this Saturday, May 19th.
Kirby will be racing in the Art's Concrete Extreme Late
Models. The Late Models will be joined by the MC Builders
Super Stocks, PASSCAR Modifieds and the Pick-A-Part
Cruisers. Fans who were born in the 1950s can show a valid
driver's license or id at the ticket window and receive
$5.00 admission this Saturday. Spectator gates will open at
5:00 PM with racing at 6:30.
The 41 year-old Kirby began
the 2007 campaign in the brand new PASSCAR Modified class.
After being spun out from behind and finishing 13th
in the Modified season opener, Kirby easily won the next
three Modified main events. However, after the third
victory, Kirby unexpectedly sold his Modified and bought a
Late Model. With a chassis formerly driven by national Late
Model star Donnie Moran and a powerful engine formerly
maintained by the legendary Gardner family of Sprint Car
racing fame, Kirby won in his first outing in the car two
weeks ago.
In winning the Late Model
main event two weeks ago, Kirby became the fifth different
winner in as many races at the Riverside County clay oval in
2007. Chasing Kirby to the checkered flag was another former
Sprint Car driver, Chad Jones of Temecula, California and
Hawthorne, California's Ron Bartels.
Heading the field in
Saturday's MC Builder's Super Stock main will be the Jerry
Dodd team of Ed Perry of Carpenteria, California and
defending champion Mark Shackelford of Riverside,
California. Perry leads Shackelford by a scant 6 points
heading in Saturday's race. As usual, the affable
Shackelford will be doing double duty on Saturday racing at
both The PAS and in the ASA Super Late Models at the Orange
Show Speedway in San Bernardino. Apple Valley, California's
Randy Thornell tops the standings in the Modified class
heading into Saturday's 20-lap main event.
Families can save on Saturday
with the popular PAS Family 4-Pack. Mom, Dad and two kids
will get into Saturday's races for $40.00 and they will also
get four hot dogs and four sodas. All they have to do is ask
for the Family 4-Pack at the ticket window.
Saturday's 50's Night
celebration, featuring the latest in 2007 dirt track
technology, will including qualifying for the Late Models
and heat races and main events for all of the classes. And,
a few pushes, bumps and crashes along the way.
In addition to Saturday's
race on the half-mile clay oval, there will be drag racing
on Friday at the popular Street Legal Strip at The PAS where
you can race your own car for just $30.00. Gates at the will
open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:00.
