(APRIL
24, 2007, PERRIS, CA) Major league Sprint Car racing
returns to Riverside County's Perris Auto Speedway when
Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the Lucas Oil
USAC/CRA Sprint Cars on 40's Night this Saturday, April 28th.
All fans born in the 1940s, who show a valid id at the
ticket window, will get into Saturday's race for just $5.00.
In addition, The PAS will pass out free magnet schedules to
all fans courtesy of longtime track sponsor Barratt Homes.
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00.
Two
weeks ago when Santa Maria, California's
"Showtime" Danny Sheridan won his first main event
of 2007, it tied the all-time USAC record of 11 different
winners in the first 11 races of a season. In addition to
another different winner on Saturday setting the all-time
USAC record, it would equal the CRA mark set in 1974 when 12
different drivers emerged victorious in the first 12 races
of the year. Incidentally, dating back to the first weekend
of November in 2006, the highly competitive Lucas Oil
USAC/CRA series has produced an amazing 14 different winners
in the last 16 races!
Saturday's
40's Night promotion is just another in the long line of
promotions promoter Don Kazarian has planned for this year.
In fact, he has been doing it for several years. "We
always have a lot of promotions on our schedule like this
week's 40s night," Kazarian said on Monday afternoon.
"Competition for the entertainment dollar is fierce
these days, especially in Southern California where there is
so much to do. We try to have a little something for
everyone. You go to some tracks in small cities in different
parts of the country and there is nothing else to do, so
everybody goes to the races. It is not like that here in the
greater Los Angeles area so we have to be creative."
Creative
is just what Kazarian has been over the past few years. The
next scheduled promotion after this Saturday will be 50's
Night on May 19th. The month of June is annually
Kid's Month and all kids 12 and under are admitted free when
an adult accompanies them. Other promotions in June include
Bald Night (June 16th) and Tattoo Night (June 23rd).
On Bald Night, anyone who is completely bald gets in for
free. However, if someone shows up at the front gate with a
full head of hair and wants to get in free, The PAS hires a
barber who is stationed at the front gate to shave heads.
There are several takers each year. On Tattoo Night, anyone
with a tattoo that can be publicly seen gets in for just
$5.00. And, you guessed it. If someone does not have a
tattoo and they want to get in for free, there will be a
tattoo artist at the front gate. No need to worry,
guaranteed, the tattoo artist will be not be the barber who
is shaving heads the week before.
The
tracks most popular promotion is Skirt Night. Anyone, female
or male, who wears a skirt or a dress, gets in for $5.00 and
they get $1.00 hot dogs and $2.00 beers. Last year nearly 75
men showed up wearing skirts and dresses, which triggered an
impromptu best-dressed contest among the men at
intermission. The winner was to be determined by the cheers
from the crowd. "Some guy who would dwarf most NFL
offensive linemen showed up wearing a blue moo-moo,"
Kazarian said laughing. "The crowd went wild and he won
in a landslide! Then we made him trophy girl for the main
event. You should have seen the look on Damion Gardner's
face when the guy stepped up on the podium to present him
his trophy! It was priceless." This years Skirt Night
will be August 3rd.
Other
promotional nights on this years schedule that we have not
mentioned include Hot August 70's Night on August 18th,
Back to School Night on September 15th, 60's
Night on September 29th and Fan Appreciation
Night & Toy Drive on November 17th.
Saturday's
40's Night will be filled with the 21st century
all-out action supplied by the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint
Cars and will include qualifying, four 10-lap heat races, a
12 lap B main and a vicious 30 lap A main event.
On
Friday, the red-hot drag racing action at the Street Legal
Strip at The PAS will continue. Friday's gates will open at
5:00 PM with racing at 6:00.
